If you'd like to board your own horse, examples of horse ownership costs are listed below so you can compare them to lease fees:
- Initial price of horse or monthly or annual lease fee if leasing the horse from someone else
- Trailering fee to get it somewhere: $80 to $200? depending where is it coming from
- Monthly outdoor board: $460/month + GST
- holding fees for vet and farrier visit if you can't be there during the week: $20/visit
- Weekly group lessons: $192/month + GST
- Farrier (no shoes): $35-40/month ($50-$60/trim every 6 weeks)
- Farrier with front shoes: $120/month ($180/trim every 6 weeks)
- Routine vet costs (vaccinations, coggins, deworming, annual teeth): $500-600/year, 0r $40-$50/month
- Maintenance vet costs (injections for arthritis, does not include initial xrays): $600-1200 depending on type of injection and frequency, or $50-$100/month
- Surprise vet costs (example xray and emergency call, assume 1x per year): $500? or $40/month
- Extra grain and supplements: $1/day to $6/day depending on type of horse, or $30 to $180/month
- Daily previcox, antihistamine or similar medication: $50 to $100/month
- Tack and equipment: varies, price of saddle anywhere from $1500 to $6000, bridle $120 to $500
- Blankets, boots, other supplies: $??? blankets are $120-$350 each
- Price of school horse rental when horse is lame or injured: $38/ride
- minus use of horse in lessons if in the lesson program (3 x a week in lessons is -$264, a 1/4 leaser could be about -$200/month)

Essential Care Lease A.K.A. Adopt a Horse Program
Note on Lesson Requirements:
Lesson Lease
- Ride the same horse (or a horse of your choice) in lessons
- $15/lesson (no additional practice rides)
Quarter Lease
- 6 uses per month including use in lessons in the Equestrian Development Program (4 weekly lessons, plus 2 practice rides per month)
- Base price for school horses: $496.75/month + GST price & includes 4 weekly group lessons + 2 practice rides
- Additional practice rides can be purchased at $56/ride + GST
- Note private (+$35) and semi-private ($15) lessons will have additional fees per lesson
Half Lease
- 12 uses per month including use in lessons in the Equestrian Development Program (4 weekly lessons plus 8 practice rides per month)
- Base Price for school horses: $766.50/month + GST includes 4 weekly group lessons + 8 practice rides
- Note private (+$35) and semi-private (+15) lessons will have additional fees
- Note: half leasers do not have to pay for off property weekend show horse & tack fees
Mini-Horse Lease (for children ages 4 to 7, or depending on size of child)
- 8 uses per month
- $100/month
- Lead-line rides and grooming
- Parent must have experience with being able to catch, groom and tack-up horse independently
Essential Care Lease A.K.A. Adopt a Horse Program
- 2 visits per week to groom, hand walk and spend time with a horse
- Leases must have enough horsemanship skills to catch, groom and walk their horse
- Can be combined with lessons or done separately
- Price for essential care lease with no lessons: $100/month + GST
- Price for essential care lease with 4 weekly lessons (one visit, one ride per week on the same horse): group lesson, tack & school horse fee for lessons (EDP program) + additional $110/month + GST
Note on Lesson Requirements:
- Lessons are required for all quarter and part leases to ensure that the rider’s ability is maintained, to maintain the training level of the horse and to maintain safety aspects.
- All quarter and part lessee's will be required to have an assessment ride prior to signing a lease contract in order to assess the lessee's skill level and ability to handle the horse in practice rides
