Fall Short-Courses

We have a few different short-course options for students this fall.  These courses will be held either outdoors in the outdoor arena, on the trails or in the event center!  Below you will find details on our Rookie Riders Youth Program, Adult Strength Building and Vaulting Class, Intro to Cross Country, Advanced Trail, Intro to Barrels, Intro to Driving, EC Theory Levels 1&2, Horse Ownership 101, Dressage Test Practice,  and Intro to Polo Crosse.  Things to know before you purchase:

Pricing

Some events are priced at the theory rate ($25/class+GST) and some are priced at the fun event rate ($56/class+GST) depending on whether a horse is required. Some classes are 4 weeks, and some are 6 weeks. There is no guaranteed amount of riding time in classes.  If you are a boarder or trailer in, take $30 off the price of $56/lessons.

Make-ups

In the event a whole class needs to cancel due to inclement weather or coach conflict, we will either extend the course a week, or, credit your account with the $ amount that you can use towards your next invoice.  If you need to miss a lesson, we do not have make-ups available unfortunately, and this is reflected in the pricing.

Gear and Equipment

Some of these courses will require specific clothing, advanced preparation/studying, gear and/or equipment. Please read the description to find out if you need anything.

Rookie Riders 6-Week Youth Program


This program is designed by Equine Canada to help youth build confidence and develop core strength required for safe riding, dismounting and vaulting.  Each week builds on skills learned in the previous week. This will be our first 6-week trial of the program. This course is open to the public as well as current students.

Coaches: Shannon
Ages: 8 to 15
Cost: $25/session + GST
Location: indoors in the Event Centre
Days/Times: Tuesdays from 6 to 7pm

Duration: 6 weeks starting Sept. 15th
Equipment: clean indoor shoes or socks, gym clothes comfortable for tumbling on mats

Adult Core Strength & Vaulting

Driving Lessons


Join Shannon and Adi to learn about and practice driving.  Lessons will include working with the mini's and the team to understand harnesses and equipment, safety and driving.

Coaches: Shannon & Adi
Ages: 16 and up
Cost: $56/session + GST
Location: outdoors
Day/Time: 6 weeks Mondays from 6 to 7pm starting September 14th

Horse Behavior & Handling for student & parents


This 4-week short course is to help develop confidence and improve safety and knowledge for students and parents as they transition to catching and handling horses without coach supervision.  Learn how to read the horses, handling techniques for difficult horses, pasture safety, tips for tacking up english and western groomi,ng, first aid care, and more.

Coaches: TBD
Ages: 9 and up, parent friendly
Cost: $25/session + GST
Location: outdoors
Day/Time: 4 weeks, Fridays from 8 to 9pm starting September 18th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​

Advanced Horse Handling


For intermediate to advanced riders to gain experience handling thoroughbreds, trailer loading, holding for vet and farrier, training young horses, dealing with difficult situations, reading horse behavior and more.

Coaches: Adi
Ages: 14 and up
Cost: $25/session + GST
Location: outdoors or tack-up area/barn
Day/Time: 4 weeks, Thursdays from 6:45 to 7:30pm starting September 17th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​

Intro to Barrels


Learn how to train and practice for barrel racing with coach Lauren!

Coaches: Lauren
Ages: 10 and up
Cost: $56/session + GST
Location: outdoor arena
Day/Time: 4 weeks, Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30pm starting September 16th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​, must be comfortable tacking up on your own

Intro to Cross-Country


Learn about and try out cross-country jumps.  This is for intermediate and advanced students who want to learn more about the sport and improve their outdoor riding and jumping skills!

Qualifications: must be comfortable at the canter and have previous jumping experience
Coaches: Sam
Ages: 10 and up
Cost: $56/session + GST
Location: trails and outdoor arena
Day/Time: 6 weeks, Saturdays from 1 to 2pm starting September 19th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​, required to have a safety vest and own helmet, must be comfortable tacking up on your own

Dressage Test Practice


Join coach Isabel to practice and get tips on your dressage tests!  Tests will be provided in advance for you to study.

Qualifications: for Novice to Advanced riders
Coaches: Isabel
Ages: 10 and up
Cost: $56/session + GST
Location: outdoor arena
Day/Time: 4 weeks, Sunday's from 10 to 11am starting September 20th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​, must be comfortable tacking up on your own

Advanced Trail Riding


For those that want to do more than a walk on the trail.  These lessons will start with a lesson in the outdoor arena, then move to the trail at a trot or canter depending on skill level.
Qualifications: Intermediate and Advanced students only

Ages: 10 and up

Location: outdoor arena & trails
Day/Time: 4 weeks, Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30pm starting September 18th
Equipment: come dressed for the weather​, safety vest recommended and your own helmet, must be comfortable tacking up on your own

Equine Canada Theory: Levels 1 & 2


Students will study for Equine Canada Testing Levels 1 & 2

Coaches: Shannon
Ages: 8 and up
Cost: $25/session + GST
Location: the Lodge Classroom
Day/Time: 6 weeks, Fridays from 8 to 9pm starting October 23rd
Equipment: come with your own Equine Canada theory level 1&2 books (purchase from MHC or Greenhawk)

Horse Ownership 101


Learn about what to expect, what you need to know, and how to go about purchasing a horse.  Learn about costs, contracts, health care, vetting, leasing your horse and more. New horse owners, parents and public are welcome.
