How Can you Help the Schoolies?
Starting again Thursday November 12th, Sagehill Stables will have to once again shut down it's lesson program to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
However, that means that our 17 lesson horses are now out of work, with no employment insurance options available for them. Unlike other businesses that can close their doors and walk away, lesson barns have these 1200 lb star employees that need 24-7 care, a lot of feed and veterinarian expenses that can pop up at any time (horses don't stop getting sick or injured just because there is shut-down!). On top of the already high hay prices we have had the past 2 winters, this puts us in a challenging situation. These essential care costs won't be able to be covered by the current programs offered by the government to help businesses cope with COVID-19 closures.
So, just as many other local businesses have been adjusting and changing, we have come up with some services we can still offer you. Your participation in these programs will help ensure that the horses essential care needs are covered during this unprecedented time. Essential care means that the needs of the horse are being met according to the National Code of Practice for Equines. If we cannot cover these basic essential care needs, our school horses will need to be re-homed or in some cases put down.
