Safety around horses is of utmost priority to us at Sagehill Stables. Working with live animals is not without risk, but there are many steps that can be taken to ensure that you have the best experience possible! We want all of our clients to enjoy their experience at Sagehill Stables, and to do this we must ensure that we have high standards for safety.
Part of maintaining these high standards is ensuring that coaches are of excellent morals, standards and qualifications, with a safety-oriented training background.
Another part of maintaining high safety standards is ensuring that horses are well trained, maintained and cared for. Loving our foundation horses and ensuring they are always getting the best possible care in terms of nutrition and healthcare is critical to providing clients with a safe and enjoyable riding experience. We do our best to ensure horses are not used consecutively in lessons, and that rider and horse personality are matched up as best as possible. Tack is also checked on a regular basis to ensure that there are no malfunctions.
To maintain safety in the barn, we have standard operating procedures and protocols for all staff to follow, along with an emergency action plan to guide all staff, clients and visitors in the case of an emergency. We also have barn rules that are required to be followed by all staff, clients and their guests.
Other aspects of safety include ensuring that clients are educated on the proper safety equipment to have. Properly fitted helmets are required by all riders, along with closed toed shoes with a 1/2 inch heal, and long pants. Protective riding vests are also recommended.
We feel that these guidelines help increase the number of successful horse experiences at Sagehill Stables!
Please find below a copy of our barn rules and liability waivers that are required to be signed by all clients at the stable. We also encourage all clients to purchase a membership with Manitoba Horse Council to obtain personal insurance coverage while riding or handling horses.
Now, be sure to check out our riding lessons & programs and learn how horses can improve your health & wellness!
